The 6th generation's determination and challenges for the next 100 years
Matsubara Farm, located in Kinokawa City, is a fruit farm that has been in business for over 120 years since the Meiji era. On 5 hectares of farmland, which easily exceeds the size of the Tokyo Dome, they grow citrus fruits such as mandarin oranges and hassaku oranges, as well as vegetables, with a focus on Fland persimmons, which boast the highest production volume in Japan. The sixth generation owner, Matsubara Kosuke, has inherited the land from generation to generation. He is a revolutionary born in the Heisei era who has completely changed the way farmers were run and how they thought. With the motto "food enriches people's hearts," they painstakingly produce fruits that make everyone smile.
The first thing they did was to change the shipping method through the union. To see for themselves whether they were making truly delicious fruit, they took on the challenge of selling face-to-face at markets held in the Tokyo metropolitan area. As they received various feedback from customers, they realized the fun and coolness of farming, as well as their mission and role. In order to meet the expectations of such customers, they focused on the original deliciousness of fruits that value seasonality. They completely reexamined the soil, which is essential for growing agricultural products. They minimize the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides and create an environment that makes the most of the power of nature. Furthermore, to bring out the richness of the fruit, they thoroughly manage the optimum time for bud and fruit removal, and harvest at the timing when each fruit is most delicious. From selection to shipping, each fruit is checked by a professional. They are particular about only selling fruit that they are confident in the taste of.
As times change, distribution has expanded, and now online sales are the norm. Word of mouth about how sweet and delicious the fruit is has spread across the country, and Matsubara-branded fruits are sweeping the prefecture and beyond. Currently, the fruit has expanded from Hokkaido to Kyushu, and even overseas, including Hong Kong and Singapore. While making a big leap from Kinokawa City to the world, Matsubara-san is returning to his roots by valuing his customers' honest impressions and smiles. He trains hard every day and grows his fruit with all his heart, so that "you who gave it to me," "you who ate it," and "me who grew it" can smile anytime and forever.
At the same time, he is also accelerating his efforts toward the "next 100 years" of agriculture and the region. Matsubara-san's direct sales store and agricultural experience programs are part of this effort. Next-generation agriculture is not just a place for food production, but a place where people gather, learn, and create the future. These efforts are changing the future of agriculture and the region, and are also making a significant contribution to the realization of a sustainable society.


Upcycling project to tackle food waste
Food waste is a global issue, and a serious problem in agriculture as well. "At Matsubara Farm, we produce about 1.5 tons of persimmons a year that don't meet shipping standards, so we have no choice but to throw them away in the fields," says Matsubara. Facing this social issue head-on, he launched an upcycling brand called "Nouka no Shukudai" that eliminates waste in the fields. He is currently working with fellow farmers, including kiwi and fig farmers, to launch a project to create new consumer value from this unused resource. The first project is "Notebooks made from fruit from the fields that are not to be wasted." It is one of the initiatives that is currently attracting attention as a practical example of recycling-oriented agriculture.
Born in 1989. After graduating from university, he worked as a company employee before going into farming. Having had the experience of not being able to grow persimmons as a child, he first learned how to grow them in order to grow something he would love. Overcoming failures, he pursued the creation of the ideal persimmons, full of flavor. He says that the most encouraging thing is hearing from customers that "my kids enjoyed them" and that they keep coming back to him every year.

Harvesting experience
You can experience the heartfelt farming at Matsubara Farm. First, you will be given an explanation of the crops grown on the farm. Depending on the season, you will tour the vast farmland where persimmons, hassaku oranges, and other fruits are grown, and while being taught professional techniques and discerning tastes, you will harvest ripe fruit with your own hands. It is an experience that allows you to feel the blessings of nature with all your senses.

Communication through agricultural products
Fruit tourism allows you to experience the bounty of nature with all five senses and refresh your mind and body. The sweetness, sourness, and aroma of freshly picked fruit is an experience you can only get here. Another attraction is not just eating fruit, but also interacting with the producers. You can hear about cultivation methods, the history of the region, and more.

Making your own original cocktail
Experience making your own original cocktail. You will make three types of cocktails using seasonal fruits: gin and tonic, non-alcoholic, and sour. The recipes are also created by experienced local bartenders. Enjoy the vivid colors, rich aroma, and refreshing taste of the fresh cocktails that fill your mouth.
