Kishigawa Strawberry Farm

Kinokawa City's world-famous red jewel. The ultimate in sweetness, cultivated in soil.

As you step into the greenhouse, a sweet aroma gently tickles your nose. Kishigawa Strawberry Picking Farm, located in Kishigawa-cho, Kinokawa City, Wakayama Prefecture, is a hugely popular experience spot visited by tourists from within and outside the prefecture, mainly from the Kansai region, and even from overseas. Of course, the main attraction for everyone is the bright red, ripe strawberries. A series of greenhouses are built on a vast site of approximately 3,000 square meters, and from late January through Golden Week, approximately 20,000 strawberries are in full bloom.

The secret to their deliciousness lies in their soil cultivation, which allows them to grow in conditions closer to their natural environment. Strawberries with deep roots absorb the power of the soil, developing a rich, sweet flavor. Pesticides are used sparingly, with organic fertilizer being the primary method. While weeding and watering require considerable effort, the strawberries deliver a truly authentic flavor. With one bite, the juice bursts, and the natural sweetness and refreshing tartness of strawberries fills your mouth. The experience plan is an all-you-can-eat one-hour experience. Depending on the season, you can sample four or five varieties, including Wakayama-born brand varieties "Marihime" and "Kinoka," as well as the sweet-and-sour "Benihoppe" and the peach-like fragrance of "Momo-ka." Feel free to bring your own toppings, such as condensed milk and chocolate sauce. Starting at the end of February, a food truck will appear in front of the greenhouse. Bring freshly picked strawberries and they'll turn them into crepes or smoothies for an additional fee. This post-experience fun is also a reason for their popularity. The sweetness of the season awaits you, offering a ripe experience that will satisfy both your stomach and your soul.

Thorough daily management to ensure deliciousness

He is a field leader with an unusual background, having previously worked as a bicycle mechanic. The farm has a history of over 40 years. In 2022, the farm faced a major turning point and was incorporated. Taking over management at this turning point in local agriculture, he is responsible for passing on the history of strawberry picking in Kishigawa Town to the next generation. His motto is "Delicious strawberries are made by people and the soil." In order to balance the enjoyment of tourism with the sustainability of locally rooted agriculture, he is also proactive in planning new services and experiences. Every year, during the latter half of the season, he invites kindergarten children free of charge, raising interest in local agriculture and providing them with a food education experience that allows them to experience authentic produce.
