Located about an hour's drive from Osaka City, Camp Momo&Kite, located in Kakinai, Momoyama-cho, Kinokawa City, surrounded by deep mountains and clear streams, is a three-pronged facility: a campground with a sauna, a cafe, and a European goods store. Managed in collaboration with local residents, the approximately 33,000-square-meter site takes advantage of the natural undulations of the land, which was formerly terraced fields and forest. More than just an outdoor facility, it serves as a vast field for addressing the region's declining population and promoting sustainable regional revitalization.
Founded by Yohei Kajikawa, a former trading company employee and immigrant to the area, the facility opened in 2024, combining the perspective he gained from his time stationed in Europe with his passion for locally rooted businesses. "I wanted to sell my favorite goods, and I found my dream home, an hour's drive from Osaka...and it came with a 33,000-square-meter plot of land," he says. Laughing at the rural side of things, he personally developed and constructed the land, bringing his vision to life.
The campground takes advantage of the differences in elevation between the original terraced fields, with tent sites dotted around the area overlooking the river from the shade of the forest. The natural site, with a limited number of plots arranged in tiers, allows everyone from families to solo campers to spend their time as they wish. A clear stream flows right next to the site, allowing visitors to swim in the water in the summer, while adults can use the sauna year-round. This sauna, also handmade by Kajikawa, makes effective use of local wood such as cypress for firewood. With only the mountains, river, and sky in sight, a relaxing experience of being one with nature awaits.
A cafe and general store renovated from an old house offers a selection of European vintage goods, and occasionally serves sweets made with local ingredients and wild game dishes caught by local hunters. Through interactions with the local residents who manage the site, a new type of campground is being created, where people can connect with the land.

Camping & sauna, cafe & European goods. A mountain village base where you'll be welcomed by clear streams and local people.
Originally from Osaka Prefecture, he traveled around the world, including Europe, while working for a trading company, where he encountered values rooted in lifestyles and cultures, leading him to set out to start his own business. After retiring, he moved to Kinokawa City and set up a facility combining a campsite, cafe, and European general store, based in an old Japanese house. With the desire to "create a place where everyone can naturally blend into the community," local residents are involved in the reception and cafe operations, firewood sales, events, etc., and profits are also returned to the community. Rooted in the local community as fellow creators, he continues to strive to create a place where people can connect with nature. He is currently building a guesthouse near the campsite.
